Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day and it also is my birthday. I’m going to take the day off to spend with my husband. This is a very busy time in our business, and I haven’t had much time off to spend with my family. January is the busiest month of the year for us and I didn’t have a day off since Christmas. I was hoping to have hired another employee before hitting the busy season, but unfortunately that didn’t work out, so I had to stop the search to make it through the January 31st filing deadline. I’m thankful the business is successful and can provide income for not only my family but my employees as well. But working long hours through the busy season can be tough. My family knows I won’t be as available during this time, but thankfully my birthday comes in February. I have an excuse to take the day off!
I’m not sure what I’m going to do during the day yet, but I know where I’ll be going for dinner. In the past, I never wanted to go out to eat because restaurants are always so busy. I don’t enjoy sitting down waiting for a table just because it’s a special day. Most often, I ate dinner at home. However, last year a friend told me that Catalina Kitchen at the Terranea Resort gives a free surf and turf meal on your birthday. Anyone who knows me well is aware that I am frugal and watch expenses closely. To find out I can have steak and lobster for free (with the purchase of another entree) is pretty cool! To avoid the large crowds that will surely be there, we’re going as soon as they open for dinner. And since I want to get the nice dinner, my husband is going to get a nice dinner too!
I’m thankful I have a staff in the office who will be able to handle the calls, e-mails and work so I can enjoy the day off. I’ll be ready for more bookkeeping work after having had a little time to relax. I hope you have a good day too!
