This past weekend I celebrated the 3rd year anniversary of a client’s business with other members of his club. I met Dan of 9Round when he called my office prior to his opening to discuss his upcoming needs. I was about to have a book signing at the local Barnes & Noble for Business Success With Ease (see https://affordablebookkeepingandpayroll.com/bswe/ for book details). I invited Dan to stop by the event since I would be sharing information I thought would be helpful for him.

A couple of months later, I was at our Chamber Business Expo and saw he had a table and was promoting his grand opening coming up and I took the information he shared on attending that day for free. I’d never been to a kickboxing studio, and I was interested to find out about it. I invited a good friend of mine to join me. I have to admit I don’t really like exercising that much (there are other things I’d rather do!), but it was a fun way to exercise if I was going to do it.

Although I don’t normally trade services with clients (I usually just purchase their products/services and they purchase mine), when he said he was ready for bookkeeping assistance, I offered a trade. Rather than charge him for the QuickBooks set-up, he gave me the same value in classes. I figured if I had a financial investment, I’d be more likely to go.

I like 9Round Torrance for a few reasons which include:

  • Dan and his staff are very kind and patient with the members. It doesn’t matter if your fitness is on the lower level (like mine); they’ll modify workouts as necessary and are very encouraging. And if you want it to be tough, you can increase the intensity of your kicks/punches, or how many you do in the time you have at that round.
  • Each round is only 3 minutes. It isn’t boring like running on a treadmill or riding a stationary bike for 20 minutes. The total workout time is a half hour, and it’s more intense than I ever did in an hour exercise class or on a machine.
  • The workouts are different each time I go. Each station changes each day so you aren’t doing the same thing over and over. By doing so, you can work out different muscles and have better results.
  • If you talk to them about your fitness and nutritional goals. they’ll help you stay on track. I mentioned today I had a goal, and one of the employees said to make sure I share it with the staff when I come so they can help.
  • The staff knows who you are and calls you by name. You’re not just one of the hundreds of members who walks into a gym and is unknown by the employees.
  • You aren’t compared to others and it’s not obvious if you don’t know the routine. When in “classes” at other gyms in the past, if I didn’ know the moves for Zumba or step or…, I felt embarrassed that I couldn’t keep up.
  • There is no “start time” to your workouts like scheduled classes. You show up during the open hours and start the rounds when the next 3 minutes begins. No pressure that you are running behind and obviously late if walking into a class with a set start time.

From someone who doesn’t really enjoy exercising all that much (I’d much rather curl up with a good book), I’m glad I do have 9Round close by and that they have been flexible with me to allow me to work out at my own pace, yet encourage me to keep improving. Dan and his staff are friendly and I know my fitness level is getting better the more I go.

I love to support my clients when I can, and I’m glad Dan and I can use each other’s services. And I’m thankful I’ve been able to watch his growth from the time he opened his doors until now. I know he’ll continue to be successful because he and his staff support the members and help them to be healthy and strong.

So if you are in the Torrance or surrounding communities, I invite you to check out his gym. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it! For more information, check out their website at https://www.9round.com/fitness/torrance-california or call 424.731.8180.
