If you’re attending college for the first time in the fall, or heading back, summer’s the perfect time to plan. You don’t have to spend all your free time prepping, but a few small steps now can make life easier when the semester starts.
First, get organized. Grab a planner or use your phone to map out key dates and to-dos. It helps more than you’d think.
Second, skim a few books or articles related to your major. Keeping your brain active makes it easier to jump in when classes start.
Third, stay updated on current events, too. It’s helpful for class discussions and being aware of what’s going on in the world.
Fourth, talk to your advisor and get your classes locked in. Look for scholarships and make sure you’ve filled out your FAFSA. If your class schedule is set, don’t wait to buy textbooks. Early birds get the cheaper options, especially for used or rental books.
Fifth, as a quick favor to future you, clean up your social media and start a LinkedIn profile. It’s never too early to think about your professional image.
A little planning now means a much smoother start in the fall. You may not want to take time out during the summer, but doing so will help launch your new school year successfully!
