As a small business owner, it can be difficult to find more time in your day to get all of your tasks done. The good news is that getting more done doesn’t have to be complicated. Everyone dislikes change. However, when that change requires little effort, it can be easier for you to stick with the new habit so that you can be more successful.  Here are 7 simple tricks that you can do to help you get more done throughout your day.

  1. Avoid distractions but work with background noise.

If you want to be efficient with your time, do your best to limit distractions while working. This could mean putting your phone to the side or turning off the TV. Although you want to limit distractions, it has been found that a steady stream of background noise can be beneficial and help you concentrate more. Gentle music or nature sounds can potentially help boost your productivity, especially if you work in a noisy environment or one with distractions.

  1. Take advantage of catnaps.

Many small business owners are sleep-deprived and you may feel like you are too busy to even try to get the suggested 7 to 8 hours of rest each night. If this is you, consider taking a 20-30 minute cat nap. I know as an entrepreneur; this can be hard to do. Another option is taking a “coffee nap” which refers to drinking a cup of coffee then immediately taking a nap. The reason for this is because it is said that the stimulant can improve your reaction time and it takes coffee about 20 minutes to hit your system. A coffee nap can help reduce brain fog and could help you become more alert.

  1. Stay home.

Sometimes staying home to work is the best choice as it can help you avoid distractions.

  1. Turn up the heat.

Studies have shown that a warmer temperature can help increase productivity in the workplace.

  1. Drink more water.

You already know that water is important for its health benefits, but did you know that increasing your water intake could also help you to become more productive? Dehydration can hurt your cognitive ability therefore it is important to drink plenty of fluids.

  1. Invest in a blue light.

If you find yourself struggling with brain fog and you can’t take time for a cat nap, you might want to consider using a blue light. Exposure to blue-light can help you become more alert and attentive, which can be beneficial for accomplishing your tasks.

  1. Work less hours.

In Sweden the average workday is 6 hours, and it has been working well. The idea of a 6-hour workday is to help improve work-life balance and to help increase productivity. You would think it is counter-intuitive to work less hours each day in order to boost your productivity, but it is actually the opposite, according to research.

Becoming more productive doesn’t mean you have to hire more employees or drastically change your work schedule. By testing the above simple tricks, you will become more efficient, which can help your business save money.
