Are you civic minded? Want to have a say on federal tax issues? Are you interested in being part of the Internal Revenue Service’s Advisory Council (IRSAC)? The IRS announced it is accepting applications for the their Advisory Council. Applications will be accepted through June 14, 2013.

The IRSAC’s purpose is to provide an organized public forum for IRS Officials and representatives of the public to discuss relevant federal tax administration issues. IRSAC members submit a report to the IRS Commissioner annually at a public meeting in the fall.

The Council advises the IRS on issues that have a substantive effect on federal tax administration. As a body designed to focus on broad policy matters, the IRSAC reviews existing tax policy and/or recommends policies with respect to emerging tax administration issues. The IRSAC suggests operational improvements, offers constructive observations about IRS’ current or proposed policies, programs, and procedures and advises the IRS on particular issues having substantive effect on federal tax administration

There are 35 members on the IRSAC who are appointed to a three-year term. Currently, applications are being accepted for approximately 11 positions that will begin in January 2014. IRSAC members are drawn from substantially diverse backgrounds. Membership is balanced to include representation from the tax professional community, including but not limited to: tax attorney’s, certified public accounts, enrolled agents, appraisers and the business community.

You can get more information, including application forms, on the Tax Professionals page (http://www.irs.gov/Tax-Professionals) on IRS.gov. Questions about the application process can be sent to the following email address: [email protected].
