Did you have a great 4th of July last Thursday? I certainly did. As an entrepreneur, I work lots of hours and don’t often have a day off. I do the regular bookkeeping work during the week, and often am preparing my social media posts, blogs, reading newsletters, etc on the weekends (like I’m doing now for this post). However, on Thursday, my office was closed for Independence Day, and I took the time to enjoy my day.
The first thing I did was sleep in until 7:30. For some, this may not be sleeping in, but for me I got over an extra 1 1/2 hours of rest which was needed. In the early afternoon my husband and I went kayaking a bit around the local marina so that I could get used to the paddling and not get too tired. I haven’t done kayaking in a few years, so I wanted to build up slowly before heading out into the open waters of the ocean. In the early evening we headed over to CBS Studios for their annual 4th of July celebration.
I normally would not drive such a distance to watch fireworks, but one of my clients is the caterer for the VIP ticket holders (they also have a food booth for attendees who pay the regular ticket price). Last year they invited me to attend for the first time as their guests and we accepted their offer. This year I was on-site helping with some bookkeeping and she invited me again. My son had plans, my daughter is currently out of the country for an internship, so it was just my husband and I. What I like about the event is not just the fantastic food and fireworks, but that it is an event to raise money for charity. The organization to benefit from proceeds this year was the Children’s Tumor Foundation which seeks to find a cure for tumors growing along nerves in the body. We all love to watch fireworks, but I especially like that a fundraiser is attached to the event.
I also love getting to see my client do such a great job at the event. Everyone raves about the food, and the servers helping were fantastic. There were people constantly clearing off unneeded items from the tables to keep them clean and welcoming to others looking for seating. There was entertainment while eating (the singers were very good!) and the atmosphere was welcoming. I already rave about the food my client makes as everything I’ve ever had is fantastic. But to see them at work and doing an amazing job makes it all the more wonderful.
If you are in this area and want some amazing food or need an event planner, check out their websites at http://harrysbbq.com/ and http://www.ie-corporation.com/. You’ll be glad you did. Feel free to tell them that I sent you!
