In a study by Insightful, involving 1,200 U.S. employees and managers, they found that focus is a significant productivity challenge, with 92% of employees reporting focus issues. Key findings include:
- Frequent Distractions: 80% of employees are unable to go an hour without distraction, and 11% are distracted every five minutes. A quarter of managers noted that lack of focus causes employees to lose at least 25% of the workweek.
- Sources of Distraction: 71% of respondents blamed coworkers, 62% cited phone notifications, and 32% pointed to emails as major distractions. However, 54% of managers and 40% of employees believed remote work increased focus.
- Generational Challenges: 64% of managers reported that Gen Z employees struggle with focus, with 60% saying they use phones too often.
The study concludes that traditional office settings with rigid schedules hinder deep, focused work. Flexible work arrangements, fair compensation, and supportive leadership can enhance employee focus.
