Did you have an enjoyable Thanksgiving? I hope you had a great time with friends and family yesterday in an attitude of gratitude for all we have been blessed with in our lives. If you are one of the millions shopping on “Black Friday” I hope it isn’t too crazy out there. I try to stay away from retail stores the day after Thanksgiving. I worked retail for 9 years and do not miss the crazy things that would happen when lines are long and the patience of customers is short. It’s truly sad how one day we can be relaxing with family thankful for what we have and the next day fight over items to give as gifts.
Although I don’t like to shop on “Black Friday” I do like to support my local entrepreneurs on “Small Business Saturday” which I heard about a few years ago. Why do I participate? For one, I’m a small business owner and understand the struggles entrepreneurs face each day. Secondly, I like to support my local businesses so that our neighborhoods benefit from the funds staying in our communities.
Will you be participating this year? It can be visiting a small restaurant, buying gifts to share with friends/family, or maybe even taking a class from a local artist. Do something to show you care about the “little guy” and help make their businesses a success. Trust me when I say the small business owner will appreciate your patronage much more than the large guys. Don’t get me wrong, we need the larger businesses as well, but it’s important to make sure our local small businesses are successful as well.
I hope you go out and show your support to your local entrepreneurs. I know I will be.
