One of my clients is a corporate event planner and puts on numerous parties for companies during this time of year (of course they help with events all year long, but December is quite busy.) When stopping by my office early last week the owner invited me to the event, and I told her I’d love to go. It was being held at the Science Center, and we’d have the chance to see the Endeavor while we were there. I am planning on going to the Science Center later in the month when my out-of-town family comes to visit, but I thought it would be fun to go and see it during the annual holiday party.
It was raining when we arrived, and I was happy that we were directed to the covered parking area (I think parking started on the upper level and worked its way down as more cars arrived. Because I committed the first part of the event, we were arriving about 1 1/2 hours after it began, so there were a lot of cars already there. When I exited the parking lot, I was happy to see that awnings had been set up to shield us from the rain as we made our way to the entrance.
When we walked inside, we could see some circus-type performers toward the front of the room (there was a tightrope walker when I looked in that direction). We got our wristband and headed for the buffet. I had to say I was impressed with how the Science Center had been turned into a banquet hall. There were probably at least 50 tables on the first floor with the performance area at the far end of the dining area. The buffet in the main room had 4 stations set up to allow people to get their food more quickly. There was also another buffet station in the room where the D.J. was set up for the dancing, and another on the second floor with additional seating in both locations.
The food was amazing. I had some Chicken Marsala and Beef tenderloin, garlic mashed potatoes, and Italian vegetables. Of course, rolls/butter were available as well. Two other stations had salad, tomatoes/mozzarella, breadsticks, and more, but I was not hungry for any more food at that point. I did save room for dessert, though. My favorite was probably the bite-size fruit tart, but there was one that was what I’d call a turtle brownie that was delicious too.
We had the opportunity to walk through the Science Center and view the exhibits. It has been years since I’ve been here (I think I last took my kids 10 or more years ago) and we enjoyed looking at some of the new things that have been brought in. On the way, my husband and I talked about some of the things we most enjoyed seeing there when we were kids (which most have been replaced by newer exhibits and better technology.) We then made our way to the Endeavor. All I can say is Wow! What an experience to be so close to something so iconic. It was also cool to see a picture of Colonel Michael Fincke who was honored with me and 3 others in October by El Camino College as Distinguished Alumni. Had I seen this exhibit before we met, that photo wouldn’t have had as much meaning as it does now. Having met someone makes seeing them in photos so much more real.
If you ever need an event planner for a corporate event (large or small), or personal events (parties, weddings, etc) you need to contact Industry Events. I’ve been to two of their events this year and have been impressed with what I’ve seen. They know what they are doing, and the food is fantastic. You can view their website at http://ie-corporation.com/ or call 310-534-3422 for more information. When you call, ask for Brittani or Jon and they’ll be happy to answer any questions you may have.
