I attended the Dallas Success Summit the end of last week where there were networking opportunities as well as expert speakers in many areas of business. Because my brother lives in Houston, I took the opportunity to extend my trip for a visit to their home. I hadn’t been to Texas since 2006, so it was time I spent time with them.
The Success Summit started with a “party” on Thursday night with networking with the attendees and current business associates. My daughter started out next to me and explained what her goals and dreams for her future were (she is a 19 year old college student with a desire to help orphans). Soon after, she was comfortable enough to do her own networking, and I’d see her across the room talking to other attendees and getting to know them and their businesses.
Friday was a full day of expert speaker presentations. A few things I took away were:
- Life is not about finding yourself, it’s about creating yourself (Tonya Hoffman) – Don’t worry about figuring out who you are. Decide who you want to be and become that person.
- Visibility+Value+Consistency=Influence (Caterina Rando) – share your expertise through speaking
- If someone tells you no, ask why not? (Elizabeth McCormick)- someone may not have a good answer for why you can’t do something. Even if they do, don’t let their no stop you from reaching your goals. Believing in yourself is the key to everything.
There were more experts presenting on Saturday, but I wanted to spend time with family, so I missed those. But I know each and every one of them and I’m sure they had amazing content that would have been helpful to me. I always enjoy attending the Success Summit as the experts who speak are always amazing. If you’d like to attend the Los Angeles event, put September 27th and 28th on the calendar. I’m glad my daughter had the chance to attend with me and see why I attend conferences such as these (and get the opportunity to see what I do outside of the office). I know she is going to be a success at whatever she attempts, and giving her support is important. She can take what she heard presented and apply to her future as she sees fit. She’s not yet sure what she is going to do long term (but has ideas), and being around other successful women can be inspiring.
