Are you an employer and don’t know what you should be doing when it comes to employee reprimands and/or termination? Have you lost an unemployment claim because you didn’t have all the supporting paperwork you needed? If this describes you and your business is located in the Southern California region, I recommend you attend the Greater Harbor Area Employment Advisory Council (GHAEAC) seminar on this topic. The GHAEAC is comprised of volunteers representing a cross section of business and industry. The EAC was created to promote a stronger partnership between the California Employment Development Department (EDD) (the agency involved with payroll taxes, disability and unemployment) and the business community. Its commitment is to assist employers with running their businesses more effectively, and to provide information on employment related issues. The GHAEAC hosts three seminars a year which I have attended and found to be extremely helpful.
The next seminar they are hosting is “Documentation, Discipline & Discharge” to discuss the following:
- 3 important things companies do wrong, and how to avoid them
- Personnel Files – What goes in them, what should not
- Documentation – How to objectively document the facts you will need
- Performance Appraisals – How to make the process work better for you
- Progressive Discipline – Pros, Cons, and how to use the proper techniques
- Discharge – Important steps to take before and after an employee is terminated
The information will be presented by Employment Attorney R. Craig Scott and Management Consultant Stuart M. Lerner.
This event will be held Tuesday October 22 at the Grand located at 4101 East Willow Street, Long Beach, CA 90815 with check-in beginning at 7am. A full breakfast is served beginning at 7:30am, and the presentation runs from 8:00am-12:00pm. The registration fee is $65.00 for one attendee, or $55 per person for two or more attendees from the same company. The registration fee includes the breakfast buffet, seminar materials and parking.
I have attended this seminar in the past and have found it to be extremely helpful. I have referred to the booklet several times when I’ve had a question regarding the proper way to handle situations regarding proper documentation or employee reprimands.
I highly recommend the seminars from the GHAEAC, and this one is no exception.
The registration form can be found at http://www.eac-greaterharbor.com/Seminars.html.
Will I see you there?
