Recently I’ve begun to speak to groups in order to share some of my expertise with those interested in adding to their learning.  Although it was a bit scary to step out in this direction, it has been exciting to see those in attendance really understand the importance of information I have been sharing.

The idea for speaking started about a year and a half ago.  I was dropping my daughter off at college for her freshman year and had given her a spreadsheet I created for tracking her cash expenses, as well as another sheet to track her checking information.  She didn’t really need an accounting software, so I felt the spreadsheet would be easy enough for her to use without feeling overwhelmed.  As I thought about how I’ve taught her things over the years in regard to finances, I felt she was prepared to face the world in this area (and she has done extremely well during this time).  However, I began to wonder how many of the kids being dropped off at college were truly prepared to manage finances.  I had a desire to start educating students, but wasn’t sure how I should start.  I pondered the idea and jotted down notes, but let the idea sit for a while as I did the work in my office for client bookkeeping.

At the end of last year, my business coach asked me to tell her a dream I wanted to accomplish in 2013.  I decided it was time for me to commit to speaking.  I told her I was going to talk 10 times in 2013.  In January I wrote down ideas I had for topics to share.  Some of my presentations are:

  1. Teaching kids to be financially savvy (and teaching the parents how to share this information with their own kids)
  2. Mistakes Business Owners Make (and how to avoid them)
  3. Making a Great Hiring Decision (and understanding if workers should be employees or freelance contractors)

Do you know any groups that would be interested in these presentations?  Groups that are a good fit include Rotary, Kiwanis, Women’s Business Groups, Junior High, High School and College classes, and other community organizations.  I’d appreciate your sharing my information with them.  I can be reached at 310-534-5577.  Thanks for your support!
