I love supporting my local community.  I had another opportunity to do so yesterday.  One of my clients was hosting a cut-a-thon to benefit an elementary school.  The owner allows each employee to choose an organization to support.  Every few months he will host a cut-a-thon at his salon and ALL money raised is donated directly to the organization.  That means every dollar paid for haircuts, tips, raffle prizes, etc is donated.  Therefore, my client incurs a large expense on his own for hosting this as all of his workers are employees paid hourly.  He pays the salaries, taxes, etc, and has no financial benefit from hosting these events.  However, he is very interested in helping the community (and does so in so many ways).

I participated in his event for a few reasons.  First, I love his salon and want to show my support whenever I can.  Second is that my stylist is the one who put on the event this time and I wanted to show my support to her as well.  Third, I wanted to help raise money for the organization.  My part was just a small portion given to the group, but every penny is important, especially now with money so tight.

I help the community in other ways as well, which you may be hearing more about soon since one event I’ll be helping chair is only a few months away.  I feel so good when I can make a positive effect on someone, even if it doesn’t seem like I make a very big impact.  But the small amount I do plus what you and others do adds up together to make a big difference.

So what are you doing in your community?  I’d love to hear about it.
