As a bookkeeping company, we have enjoyed using LogMeIn Free as a vital way to connect with our clients remotely at no additional cost. We have highly recommended the free service to our clients, and we use it quite frequently.

But boy were we surprised this past week when it was suddenly no longer free!

LogMeIn, which has been providing free remote access for over ten years, has now decided to charge for all their services. As LogMeIn consolidates their services into one package, they explain simply: “We believe this offering to be the best premium desktop, cloud and mobile access experience available in the market today.” Well, yes the Pro version has always been handy, reliable, and effective. But what if not everyone can afford the cost?

If you currently use their free service, the next time you log in you will be prompted to upgrade and given a seven day window to take action. For an individual, the LogMeIn Pro account costs $99 per year for two computers. Access for up to 5 computers is $249 and access to 10 computers is $499 annually. We think the cost is manageable compared to the monthly fees for online QuickBooks and other cloud based accounting programs (although they have their benefits!)

If you are one of our many clients currently using LogMeIn with us, we will have to discuss this change and decide if upgrading to LogMeIn Pro is a good fit for you. Be sure to give us a call to discuss your situation and the best option for you.
