I know I usually post business related information on my blog, but today’s post will be a bit more personal.  I hope you don’t mind my being a bit more informal today.  As many of you know, I am a wife and mother as well as a business owner, and those do overlap in life.  I’m excited because my daughter’s school year has ended and as you read this, I’m spending some time with her.  I haven’t seen her since Christmas break (except for the Skype sessions we’ve been able to have) and I’m looking forward to spending some time with her while she is home.

Unfortunately for me, the time she will be home is short.  She will be leaving for a 2 month internship to Zambia in early June to work with an organization that helps orphans (many due to the HIV/AIDS virus).  She was there two years ago and can’t wait to go back to serve.  The internship ends one day before she returns to college, so I’m going to have to fit in as much time with her as I can in the few short weeks we have together.

Luckily for me, she has developed an interest in business she never thought she’d have.  She’s helped in my office in the past, but would say she could never sit behind a computer all day entering numbers to generate reports.  She is very creative and active and she couldn’t imagine being stuck inside all day.  However, this past semester, she volunteered at her local rescue mission and said she actually enjoyed helping with the data entry (and her experience in my office gave her the skills needed).  She has said she’d like to work in my office periodically this summer and she is going to join me as I travel to a seminar to see what I do besides sit behind a desk and manage a business.  I think it will be good for her to be exposed to the experts who will be sharing their expertise and what they have learned in their careers.

I’m glad that my owning a business has given her the opportunity to see what that entails, and will allow her to use that information to evaluate what she wants to do with her life.  Currently her goal is to serve orphans in other countries, but having business experience can be a great background for that as well.  She’s most likely be working with an established organization, so her experience will be well appreciated.
