Friday I said goodbye to Michelle.  She passed away on April 5, 2013 at the young age of 45 due to cancer.  I have to say I’m still in shock that she is gone.  She was a vibrant woman who brought joy and laughter to those around her.  I wrote a blog post about her when I found out about her death.  You can read that post here: https://affordablebookkeepingandpayroll.com/?p=1322.

Since her death, I’ve pondered the impact she has had on my life and where I might be had I not given in to her pestering me to help her with her bank reconciliations.  At the time I was employed as a bookkeeper for a publishing company and never thought I would own a business.  She told me there were aspects of the bookkeeping she hated and she knew I could do it and allow her to do only the parts she enjoyed.  I don’t exactly remember my thought process at that time and why I finally decided to do it, but most likely it was because she asked so much and I wanted to take away from her the work she couldn’t stand doing.  If I hadn’t given in to her request, where would I be today?  Would I have stayed in my job, would I have quit and been an at home mom working with my kids on their schooling, or would I have started a business at a later date?  It’s hard to know.

What I do know is that Michelle changed my life.  I became owner of my own company, and I offer services to business owners who don’t have the time and/or the desire to handle this apect of their businesses.  I give them peace of mind and the freedom to do what they love.  I offer employment to others which makes an impact on their families. My kids came to help in my office periodically and they saw what it was to work hard and be successful.  I believe that has left an impact on them as well.

I hope that I have made an impact on others like Michelle has done for me.  Most likely we’ll never know how we have touched other people’s lives, but at least Michelle did know she made a difference in mine.
