Are you launching a podcast, or have you been hosting for a while, but you want to improve? I’m often asked questions when people find out I’ve been podcasting since 2019. So today I’m going to share some tips you can use to help launch or grow your show.

1.    Setup & Recording

Great audio is key, but you don’t need expensive gear. A dynamic mic offers quality sound on a budget. You can use over-ear headphones, wireless earbuds, or wired earphones to monitor your audio. Some platforms allow you to record each person’s audio separately in case one person speaks at a lower volume than others.

Before recording, prepare an outline to stay on track. There are various recording platforms you can use, whether your podcast is audio or has a video component as well. Be sure to leave at least a few seconds of silence at the beginning and end to make editing easier.

2.    Content & Growth

Find your niche. Specific topics attract loyal listeners. Hook your audience, keep episodes structured, and end with one clear call to action.

To distribute your podcast, use a host like Buzzsprout or Spotify for Creators. My show is on many of the large platforms, including iTunes, iHeartRadio, Spotify, and Pandora, as well as many lesser-known known here in the States. I also post to YouTube for those who want to watch the recording. Be sure to write compelling show notes and include timestamps for easy topic discovery.

If you’d like to use Buzzsprout to make your distribution a snap, I have put a discount code in the video description that will allow you to save $20 when you sign up for an account. Depending on how many hours of content you share monthly, this could be 1-4 months free!

3.    Engagement

Engage listeners by asking questions, not just requesting reviews. Repurpose content into blogs or social posts that encourage interactions with you, your guests, and other followers.

4.    Monetization

As much as we love podcasting, it takes time, effort, and resources. Wouldn’t it be great to earn money from your show? Consider monetization through Patreon, affiliates, or premium content. Once you have 1000 subscribers to your YouTube channel, you can have ads placed before, during, or after your video plays to earn funds.

I’m still learning so much myself, even after five-plus years of podcasting. Success takes time, but small improvements add up. Focus on one step today, whether it’s refining your content or upgrading your mic. If you’ve already started your podcast, take a look at what you’ve accomplished. If you’re just about to launch, I wish you lots of success in your endeavor.

I’d love it if you’d tune in to my show Biz Help For You and let me know what you think. I enjoy hearing from listeners. Feel free to share a topic you would find helpful to you in your business or podcasting endeavors, or an episode you found impactful on your journey. You can send me a message at media@abandp.com. I look forward to hearing from you!
