Today I looked back at the past week and realized I’ve given quite a referrals to business associates who I know can meet the needs of people I have had the chance to speak with regarding their situations. Our clients see us as a resource for them because we have relationships with many people in different occupations, and I truly enjoy connecting the two sides. Who wouldn’t want to help someone with a need find a business that can help solve their problem?
Are you seen as a resource to your clients? People would much rather get referrals to someone recommended than have to search online for a needed service. How do we know if the doctor is friendly, or if the CPA is knowledgeable, etc? Your clients already trust you, so those you refer to are seen as trustworthy as well.
If you look for opportunities to help others when they have a need, you will be blessed yourself. It may be just the joy of knowing you’ve helped someone solve a problem, or at least introduced them to someone who has the potential to help. But more likely, you’ll be repaid somehow. Perhaps you are seen in a more positive light, or maybe the person you helped is so appreciative that they refer someone to you whose needs you can serve. Whether you ever gain financially or not, I’m sure you’ll find the feelings you get when you help someone else are payment enough.
