Are you a user of QuickBooks 2012 software and do you use add-on services such as credit card processing or payroll? If so, you will notice these features will no longer work in your current QuickBooks version. Although annual updates are not necessary to be able to use the desktop version, Intuit makes it required if you use additional services.
After May 31, Intuit discontinued support for add-on features for PRO, Premier, Enterprise, Accountant and Mac versions. What does this mean for you? If you use QuickBooks 2012 without any additional features, you can continue to use this software, but you will not be able to have access to live technical support or any other integrated services. However, if you use payroll, 1099 e-filing, credit card processing, bill pay, online banking, Intuit Payment Network, point of sale, or accountant’s copy transfer service, you must upgrade in order to continue using these services.
So how much will the upgrade cost? The least expensive I have found for QuickBooks PRO 2015 is the digital download or disk on Amazon for $189.99. If you prefer the disk, keep in mind you may be charged tax (depending on your state) as well as shipping. Premier versions start at $289.95 and Enterprise can be found for $1000.00. Local stores such as Sams Club or Costco often have less expensive pricing than your local office supply store, but sometimes there are sales for online purchases.
So how much time does a software upgrade take? In most cases, you can update QuickBooks and your company file in less than an hour. The larger your company file, the longer it takes. After you install QuickBooks 2015 or QuickBooks for Mac 2015, you will be prompted to register, which is required if you want to access any add-on services or live support while using QuickBooks 2015.
