If you are an employer, you know it’s imperative to keep up to date with labor law and wage changes. It’s time again to look at the upcoming changes taking effect on January 1, 2024.

  • Alaska: $11.73
  • Arizona: $14.35 (tipped workers $11.35) – note that there are higher rates in Flagstaff and Tucson
  • California: $16.00 (many jurisdictions have higher rates, so review the cities where your staff works). Also note a $20/hr rate for restaurants with 60 or more locations in a chain is set for April 1, 2024
  • Colorado: Proposed $14.42 ($11.40 for tipped employees) – feedback period is allowed and has not been finalized as of the writing of this blog. Denver and Edgewater have passed higher rates.
  • Connecticut: $15.69 (tipped bartenders $8.23, tipped waitstaff $6.38)
  • Delaware: $13.25 (tipped workers $11.75)
  • Hawaii: $14.00 (tipped workers $12.75)
  • Illinois: $14.00 (tipped workers $8.40) – Chicago and Cook County also have their own minimum wage rates.
  • Maine: $14.15 (tipped workers $7.08) – Portland and Rockland have local rates
  • Maryland: $15.00 (tipped workers $3.63) – Montgomery and Howard counties have local rates
  • Michigan: $10.85 for large employers, $8.85 for small employers – St. Paul and Minneapolis have higher rates.
  • Minnesota: $12.30 (tipped workers $6.15)
  • Missouri: $12.30 (tipped workers $6.15)
  • Montana: $10.30
  • Nebraska: $12.00 (tipped workers $2.13)
  • New Jersey: $15.13 (tipped workers $5.26)- However, for businesses with less than 6 employees and seasonal staff, the minimum wage rate will be $13.73 and for agricultural workers will be $12.81.
  • New York: NYC, Nassau/Suffolk/Westchester counties $16.00, New York State – $15.00
  • Ohio: $10.45 (tipped workers $5.25)
  • Rhode Island: $14.00 (tipped workers $3.89)
  • South Dakota $11.20 (tipped workers $5.60)
  • Vermont: $13.67 (tipped workers $6.84)
  • Washington: $6.28 – SeaTac, Seattle and Tukwila have higher rates.

As a reminder, wages are based on where employees work, not where the company is located. If you have remote staff, be sure to review the wage requirements for the cities where they live to remain in compliance.
